While my pals in DC are stuck in the first Snowmageddon of 2011, I am enjoying a quiet night in the Lenox Hotel in Boston, amused by the selection of reading they offer in my room:
- The Consumer Guide to Effective Environmental Choices, by Michael Brower and Warren Leon;
- The Bottom Line of Green is Black, by Tedd Saunders;
- Preservation, The Magazine of the National Trust for Historic Preservation; and
- The Gideon Bible.
I am rather amused by this collection, particularly the fact that there is not one but two books catering to ecoconscious hotel guests. Since I'm a student of the sustainability movement, I liked this touch.
But before I could dive into either book I go to thinking how fabulous it would be to select books for hotel rooms. My reading recs would include:
- Gulliver's Travels. (I barely remember reading this from my youth but it seems appropriate for a hotel room.)
- The Hours, with accompanying soundtrack by Philip Glass. (This great book by Michael Cunningham just fits with the in-and-out of consciousness you have when sleeping in a unfamiliar location.)
- The Autobiography of Ben Franklin (Talk about an inspiring innovator, statesmen and community servant! Good motivation for the business traveller.)
- The Gideon Bible. (C'mon, just wouldn't be a hotel room without one.)
Any hotel library suggestions out there?
